In 1912, The American Association of Jewelers adopted a different gemstone to represent each month and to be known as the birthstone. The western civilization equates a gemstone with each calendar month while the Chinese use a year, which has an animal, as opposed to a gemstone, representative of each month.
Citrine is the gemstone which represents the month of November. Citrine is a semi-precious gemstone which is yellow. Citrine has a color which can vary from a pale yellow to a very dark amber almost the color of a Maderia wine.
The word Citrine comes from the French word "citrin" meaning lemon.
A gift of Citrine is said to be symbolic for hope and strength. With its sunny brightness, Citrine is said to aid those needing assistance in getting through difficult times!
Perhaps we all need to add some Citrine to our jewelry collection - and not just those with a November birthday!
